Cheat Sheet: 7 Hacks To Slay In The AM

 

 

Ever wonder how in the world some people manage to look so alive in the morning while you’re barely surviving the first hour at school or work? Their burst of energy may be annoying but we all still secretly wish to be like the 1% that enjoys being part of the breakfast club. However, not everyone has the ability to wake up in time for the sunrise (because let’s face it, 6am is way too early for our life,) so here are some fake-it-'til-you-make-it tricks to get that morning glow!

 

1. Hydration is key.

Make sure to drink lots of water to keep your skin hydrated and healthy. Avoid sodas & sugary drinks before going to bed because these can make you look tired and bloated. Alcohol should also be avoided as this causes the blood vessels to dilate, which can result in unwanted flushing & puffiness.

 

2. Get your snooze on.

As much as possible, try to get at least 6 hours of sleep every night. Set an alarm to notify you when it’s time to go to bed so you can wake up feeling refreshed. Keep in mind that getting as much rest as you can includes staying away from your gadgets an hour before actually going to sleep because the light impairs your body’s sleep chemicals.

 

3. A little stretching goes a long way.

If you are able to take on a full workout, go for it! But if you’re like most and find that leaving the comfort of your soft bed is hard enough, a little light stretching is good enough to get your blood pumping, waking both your mind and body up.

 

4. Take a cold shower

While hot showers are more relaxing, your goal for the morning is to wake up and a splash of cold water will do the trick! It can also reduce any redness or puffiness you might have, making you look more fresh and rested.

 

5. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.

This tip is not just for girls because guys have to moisturize, too! Don’t skimp on a good moisturizer and make it a habit to put some on each night before hitting the hay. After application, let it dry first so it doesn’t rub off onto your pillow. Also, don’t forget to moisturize your lips. It would be best to apply before sleeping and upon waking up because they tend to chap overnight.

 

6. Pay attention to your eyes.

If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then it’s important to keep the frame looking pretty. Applying cold compress to your eyes for 5-10 minutes will lessen the appearance of eye bags and red eye. You can also opt for a caffeine-infused eye cream before sleeping to reduce puffiness in the morning.

 

7. A little makeup never hurts.

When all else fails, makeup is always there to save the day! The trick is to apply a thin layer of concealer, just enough to cover those eyebags. A pink blush, and some mascara can also make you look more awake. Top it off with a natural shade of lipstick and you’re good to go!
