In Focus: 5 Most Memorable Star Magic Milestones Through The Years

2017 marks the 25th anniversary of ABS-CBN’s premier talent management arm, Star Magic—and, every single year, the Star Magic Ball has become one of the most anticipated events in the industry.

Star Magic was born from Mr. Freddie Garcia and Mr. Johnny Manahan's idea of creating a stable home for ABS-CBN’s stars. Just like any other story of success, it started out with a small number of artists under its original name Talent Center, until it eventually grew bigger every passing year to become the Star Magic we know today.

As we welcome September, the month of the much-awaited Star Magic Ball, let’s take a walk down the memory lane and look at five memorable Star Magic milestones on television through the years:

1. Ang TV

"4:30 na, Ang TV na!"

The first batch of Star Magic artists made their debut in the afternoon youth TV show Ang TV in 1992. It was the start of something new and promising for Star Magic, which led to the production of more teen hits in the following years.

2. Gimik

Who can forget the Gimik barkada? The iconic teen dramedy was launched in 1996 and catapulted the careers of the biggest young stars in the mid-‘90s—from Judy Ann Santos and Rico Yan to Jolina Magdangal and Marvin Agustin, names and faces that will always be carved in the history of the industry.

3. Ang Pulubi at Ang Prinsesa

We will always remember where the biggest child wonders of the ’90s started. Camille Prats and Angelica Panganiban became the leads in this film about two girls whose lives contrasted and collided. Every ‘90s kid can agree that this movie was literally their childhood.

4. Pangako Sa 'Yo

There will always be that one most talked-about television drama—and, back in 2000, the iconic Echo-Kristine tandem starred in the record-breaking teleserye Pangako Sa ‘Yo as Angelo and Yna. It was aired not only in the Philippines, but also in other countries such as Malaysia, China, and Kenya. Fifteen years later, ABS-CBN remade the show and casted one of the country’s most popular love teams Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo, further cementing the impact of PSY to the Filipino audience.

5. The Love Teams

Star Magic never misses a beat when it comes to discovering chemistry between its artists, creating successful love teams such KimErald, KathNiel, and LizQuen. The kilig moments from these pairs undeniably touch Filipinos' hearts all around the world—and we can't wait to see which young pairs will be following in their footsteps!
