Who’s Buzzin’ 

Equipped with a strong background in Cantonese cuisine, Chef Raymond Yeung from Hong Kong joins the New World Bay Manila Hotel family as the newest Executive Chinese Chef of Li Li, the Cantonese restaurant recognized as one of the country’s best pioneering restaurants this year. Chef Raymond Yeung has spent 27 fruitful years in the hospitality industry and has worked in prestigious hotels, properties, and establishments all around Asia. He vows to ensure that the restaurant’s quality and standards are met and maintained through his careful observation of the menus and dishes— from preparation down to the presentation. Hats off to you, Chef!

Global Culinary and Hospitality Academy nabbed its third overall championship at the Philippine Culinary Cup (PCC) 2017 held at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia. It last held its title in 2014, and was then a back-to-back title-holder. The school—which approaches its 10th anniversary—prides itself for practicing close mentorship with its students. “Students will realize that the professional kitchen can be very intense and sometimes, unforgiving. That it is why we want to be able to nurture their talents and guide them as closely as possible through mentoring,” noted Chef Cho Marcelino, head chef of Global Academy Alabang.

Where’s The Buzz

Are you a fan of Coffee Project's floral nook at their Wil Tower branch? Well, we got some good news for you! The coffee shop chain will be opening a new branch at Symphony Towers in Timog Ave. Little is known on what its interiors will look like (every Coffee Project branch has a different theme), but we look forward to how the one Symphony Towers will cater to more coffee lovers!

Filipino pride soared high after Lutong Pinoy gained the spotlight at the recently conluded Food Tastings at World Trade Center! Chef Sharwin Tee, Chef Deejay Santos, Chef Michelle Adriana, and Chef Jam Melchor all showcased their tasty Filipino specialties and shared their personal cooking tips as well. Guests were certainlyu in for a treat, as they got to enjoy the dishes first hand (personally cooked by the chefs themselves). It was truly a delightful day!

You may be surprised to see improved lighting and wooden brick walls across select BonChon stores. From what we know, it’s all part of their East meets West, “Modern Barn Concept” revamp. But their stores aren’t the only things that’s changed. It’s menu items are giving Filipinos plenty more reasons to  discover Korean flavors! One of the newest additions is a side dish snack called the Jjampong Spicy Noodle Soup. There’s also the Gangnam Bao, which is pretty much like a K-Style sandwich burger. Be sure to feast on on crowd-favorites too, like the Bibimbowl, Korean Beef Stew, and Bingsu (that comes in four different flavors!).

Hawaiian/Asian Fusion resto Poke Poke introduces two brand new items to its menu: the Spam Musubi, which is inspired by sushi with a thick cut of Spam on top and a line of guiltless, workout friendly Sexy Bowls that come with their own Sexy Beast cold-pressed juice.  Get your uniquely fresh and healthy food fix at their Estancia Mall branch, Pasig branch, SM Aura branch, and the SM Megamall branch set to open next month.

Cheese lovers and avid travelers may want to consider visiting New Zealand, where artisan food producers and cheesemakers across the country dedicate themselves to reviving old-fashioned  cheese making. Where exactly to go, you ask? Head over to Auckland and Northland, Waikato, Lower North Island, Kaikoura and Canterbury, as well as The Deep South. Each location prides itself with careful technique, milk sourcing, and special recipes that produce fine quality, deliciously diverse cheeses. 

A two-storey, 35-534 square-meter lifestyle center named S Maison has opened at the Conrad Manila. Inspired by the idea of the Philippines as the “Pearl of the Orient”, it’s, pearl-shaped seating areas, dappled light streams, and the rest of its interior treatments can make visitors feel as though they’re in an actual shell. Visitors are also invited to discover its unique blend of restaurants and shops, as well as its three state-of-the-art Director’s Club cinemas.
