Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, and Zayn Malik were once just normal teenagers who auditioned in the singing competition X Factor UK back in 2010. Fast forward to seven years later, these boys have truly gone a long way with best-selling albums, sold-out stadium tours, millions of adoring fans, and, ultimately, a breakup that thoroughly devastated every single fangirl on the planet (us included.)
They made the most out of their years together as a band. But just like any good thing in life, it did come to an end when 1. Zayn officially left in 2015, and 2. the remaining boys announced their "hiatus" in 2016. We're not sure if and when they'll get back together. But as we keep that hope burning in a corner of our wishful hearts, we're here to support each of their solo careers which have been nothing but promising so far.
If you haven't been paying attention, here's what the 1D boys have been doing all on their own these days:
Back in April, Harry released his debut single "Sign of the Times" followed up by his self-titled album a month later. He has also scheduled a world tour with a Manila stop in May next year which we've already got our tickets to, obviously.
Aside from pursuing his singing career, Harry has been proving that he’s a man of many talents when he kicked off his acting career in the critically acclaimed Christopher Nolan World War II film Dunkirk. According to ET Canada, he has made history as "The First Artist to Have a Debut Film, Album, and Single Premiere at #1." We've always known he's had it in him!
Since announcing the hiatus, Niall was the first one to put out his first track as a solo artist. His first single "This Town" was released in September of last year, while "Slow Hands" came out last May. He's been all over playing his new hits with his trusty guitar, back-to-brown hair, and signature adorable charm.
After releasing his first single "Just Hold On" featuring Steve Aoki, news broke that his mother has passed away. Louis put on a brave face and carried on with his live performance on X Factor, a tough act which all of us applauded.
Moving on, Louis just released his new collaboration with Bebe Rexha "Back To You" with a music video shot in his hometown Doncaster. In between producing new music and proving his worth as a solo artist, Louis is also a father to little boy Freddie, his son with stylist Brianna Jungwirth. Oh, and after 2 years of breaking up, he's finally reunited with his longtime sweetheart Eleanor Calder!
Speaking of babies and sweethearts, Liam also has his own in the form of pop singer Cheryl Cole and newborn baby Bear. Music-wise, Liam has cooked up a couple of party-ready tracks such as "Strip That Down," a collab with Quavo, and "Get Low," featuring Zedd.
The boys have done incredibly well as solo stars. But if you never lost hope for a 1D comeback, take it from Liam himself who mentioned in an interview, "Everyone is now free to do their own thing in music and explore the music. I was worried that people would take it negatively but it's not meant to be in that sense at all. None of us left the band; we're on hiatus still, and what a great hiatus it's been so far." We so agree!
Being the first one to leave the band, Zayn has the most stuff put out on his own among the boys. He released his first solo track "Pillow Talk" in January of last year and his debut album "Mind of Mine" two months later.
He's also released the smash hit "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" with none other than Taylor Swift which was part of the soundtrack of the movie Fifty Shades Darker.
It's been known that Zayn has been struggling with anxiety issues which caused cancelled shows. Let's just hope that with his booming career, he'll be able to continuously perform live for his loyal fans. Having a gorgeous and spirited girlfriend like Gigi Hadid also doesn't hurt for sure!
Whether you admit that you're a Directioner or not, we're sure you're just as excited to see how far each of them will go. Are you itching for their comeback? Or are you happy with their solo careers? Let us know in the comments below!
