It’s been over a decade since the first High School Musical film was produced and a lot has definitely change in that time. Though a fourth installment of HSM is coming, we cannot deny that Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay, Ryan, and the rest of the squad will always have a big impact on pop culture and, of course, our childhood.
As we wait for the start of something new, let’s take a look at the film’s stars and the people they've become since they left the halls of East High.
Zac Efron (Troy Bolton)
Those grayish-blue eyes, the hot bod, and that charming smile are still with Zac and never truly left us. Since the last HSM movie, he has played various roles in a wide range of genres—from a dreamy leading man in the adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' romance The Lucky One to a frat boy in the comedy The Neighbors alongside actors Dave Franco and Seth Rogen. This year, he kicked off with Baywatch together with movie star Dwayne Johnson.
Vanessa Hudgens (Gabriella Montez)
Judging by her signature boho style, Vanessa certainly transformed from a sweet, shy girl into a true fashion icon. Aside from slaying at Coachella and red carpet events, she turned heads once again as she collaborated with artist Shawn Hook in his single "Reminding Me" where she served up sexy and glamorous looks in the steamy music video.
Ashley Tisdale (Sharpay Evans)
It’s been 10 years, but Ashley is still giving us the same ~feels~ with her amazing vocal skills. Just recently, her YouTube channel became the talk of the town as it featured a cover of Paramore’s "Still Into You" with her husband Chris French, Elle King’s "Ex’s and Oh’s" with her soul sister Vanessa Hudgens, and a special remixed performance of What I’ve Been Looking For with her movie bro Lucas Grabeel.
Lucas Grabeel (Ryan Evans)
Lucas may have retired the fedora hat as his signature accessory, but he's still looking more smashing than ever. Aside from his YouTube reunion with Ashley Tisdale, his 2017 is full of projects, including Family Guy and Switched at Birth.
Corbin Bleu (Chad Danforth)
After marrying a girl she met in a grocery store last year, Corbin is all grown-up now–totally different from his days as a Wildcat jock! He may seem far from the limelight, but he actually signed a contract with The Ghostlight Records recently to distribute the music from Holiday Inn, The New Irving Berlin Musical. Yes, he still got his head in the game!
Monique Coleman (Taylor McKessie)
She has stirred away from the movie scene, but this actress-slash-philanthropist is still very active in supporting charities and foundations across the United States. Truly, the intelligence she had in her fictional character was brought to real life. Way to go, Monique!
Olesya Rulin (Kelsi Nielsen)
If the HSM cast played the #GloUpChallenge, Olesya will certainly slay the game. Ditching her nerdy painist character from the film, she shocked everyone with a more daring and sexier look. For proof? Check her ‘gram at @olesyarulin!
A lot of things have changed in a decade and all of us feel overwhelmingly old now, but as they say: once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat!
