Smilers, rejoice! Miley Cyrus latest, dreamy single is finally here! It's been a long, looong wait—two years felt like forever—but it's all worth it!
Over the past few days, the singer has been teasing us about "Malibu," a release inspired by her relationship with fiancé Liam Hemsworth. The song tells the story of how they had to "re-fall" for each other after their breakup in 2013.
This sweet single marks a whole new musical chapter for the 24-year-old hitmaker. "This is Miley leaning into her roots more than I've ever heard," said her father, country singer and actor Billy Ray Cyrus in an interview for Billboard. True enough, "Malibu" has a more mature sound, a gentler aesthetic (no more hanging balls!), and showcases more of Miley's signature raspy voice.
After hearing this new single, we can't help but be curious about this new sound—it's definitely less hip hop (which heavily influenced Bangerz), but still not country—and we're just dying to hear some more of her new music from her upcoming album!
Miley also recently dropped some hints about her latest album: "[It's] gonna come out later in the year…maybe around October,” she said. "I always like to put songs out near my birthday 'cause it’s always fun."
We love how this gal is always full of surprises. With this breezy love song, surprising new sound, and transformed aura (we're kinda already digging that black-blonde half-half hair, TBH), we're just so stoked for what other stuff she has in store for us in 2017! For now, we're just utterly ecstatic that Miley has given us a glimpse of her latest effort with this new single. Plus, the fact that she looks extremely and genuinely happy in this video brings a smile on our face, too! Yay for love!
