We may have just started the year and have been dealing with occasional rainy weather, but we know some of you are already looking forward to summer: Palm trees, the bright sun, and the sight of crystal clear waters—elements that make us feel recharged from the city’s daily grind.
For those who can't wait for the uber sunny season to come, here's a sight you'll surely love: The outdoor area of Coco Martin’s 2,000-square meter home in Quezon City that's an oasis at the heart of the city, thanks to its ginormous swimming pool, more-than-adequate lighting, array of plants, and a few gazebos you can relax in after a grueling day.
Rain or shine, day or night, Coco's visitors will fall in love with this section of his home. In fact, it also served as a great backdrop for the photo opps when he invited family members and close friends to his place as part of his thanksgiving for the blessings he received in 2016.

While you will need a lot of space (and money) to build a similar outdoor space, you can still gather inspiration from the way Coco’s outdoor area is designed. Check out these tips:
In designing your garden/outdoor area, incorporate a variety of plants to liven it up. Not sure which plants to use? Seek advice from a landscape architect.
Aside from energy-efficient LED bulbs, you might want to consider investing on solar power as an alternate source for electricity. Mind you, solar power has many benefits.
The best material for outdoor furniture? Synthetic rattan. Aside from being durable, they are also easy to clean.
To make your gazebos spacious and have better air flow, opt for high ceilings.
To keep the temperature of your gazebo down, make use of nipa roofing: They work well on hot climates as the material acts as an insulator.
