We don't know about you, but we've found ourselves stuck in a lipstick rut more often than we'd like to admit. Sure, we love our tried-and-true favorites—variations of earthy neutral tones and all the other classic shades—but every now and then, we find ourselves itching to try something new. And by new, we mean bright, unique, showstopping, and all-around cool. In short, the poppin’ lip colors!
Here, we’ve put together a guide to finding, wearing, and pulling off the bright lip colors with confidence that you can find all in one brand. Yup! So, toss the gloss and give Clinique’s Pop Matte Lip Colour and Pop Liquid Matte a try.
A cherry red lipstick is one product we recommend every makeup lover should have in his or her makeup bag. You can pair the shade with bold, black liquid eyeliner and liberal coats of mascara to look even more classic and on-trend. And for a slightly modern touch, focus more on the lips. To achieve this, keep your skin looking natural and dewy by using just a tinted moisturizer or a sheer foundation. Once you’re done perfecting your complexion, swipe on a few coats of mascara and you’re all set!
This color is a chic mainstay for true girly-girls and edgy fashionistas alike. And for a superlight pink that’s as pretty as a petal, this lippie is just the ticket. Smacked in the middle of the bright-to-bold spectrum, there’s a lot you can do with this color. Pair it with a rich lip liner for a multidimensional look (not to mention that it’s totally ‘90s), or apply with a light hand over a darker lipstick for the sake of contrast.
This time of the year, we find ourselves reaching for our pink lipstick bullets almost daily. Since the color is just so rich and vibrant, we think, it’s best to pair with more subdued makeup on the rest of the face. Plus, a sheer-coverage foundation and soft eye makeup will let this color take center stage. A light dusting of coral blush will also complement the deep lipstick hue.
Every once in a while we tire of lipstick with a bold pop of color and sometimes keeping things monochrome, simple, and nude is our best option. But the trouble is, nude lipstick can be just as tricky (if not trickier) to wear as a bright hue. So here’s a tip: A nude lip is best paired with liner—but not in a shade that shows. Definitely line the lip with a soft nude lip pencil, but be sure that it’s not too dark that you’ll see the lip liner beneath the color.
Candied Apple Pop
The key to achieve the perfect berry shade that suits you is to keep the rest of the face minimally made up—fresh skin and a groomed brow always works well. Also, it’s not about being perfectly groomed this season—try a berry stain or concentrate on the darker color in the center of the lips and blur outwards.
