The Lost Bread is a container shop that specializes in over-the-top, whimsical french toasts and milkshakes. It’s for the locals and students living, studying or working in the UP Village area. It’s not for huge groups as it may be difficult to look for seats. We recommend the larger-than-life Carnival (a.k.a. Cotton Candy) Shake and the Campfire (a.k.a. S’mores) toasts. Here’s a fun fact: Their store name, The Lost Bread, is a direct translation of ‘pain de perdu’, the stale bread used to make French toast.

It serves modern comfort food with a twist, as well as a wide selection of beverages and craft beers. It’s for after-office affairs, and for sports and music enthusiasts living in the North. It’s not for early breakfast goers. We recommend the Tinapa & Quinoa Salad, Thrice Cooked Crispy Pork Cheek, Chicken Lollilops and Pizzookie. Vikings Luxury Buffet has redefined the buffet service industry completely; what was once mostly available in hotels catering to the upper classes has now been made available to the middle class. It’s for families and groups who are looking to celebrate special occasions affordably. It’s not for people who prefer the ambiance of a hotel buffet. Customers are loving their avocado ice cream. Our insider tip is to visit on your birthday month for a free meal. P.S. Don’t forget to bring a valid ID.

The first of its kind, Silantro Fil-Mex Cantina is a homegrown concept from Dagupan, Pangasinan serving the best of Mexican comfort food with a Filipino twist. It’s for friends looking for value-for-money Mexican food with generous servings. It’s not for a romantic type of date. We recommend the Beef Nachos, Lamb Soft Tacos and Calliente Wings. From the walls down to the menu, it aims to be everyone’s little corner for recess by transporting muggle guests to the magical world of ‘the boy who lived’. It’s definitely for Potter fans and movie buffs. It’s not for hard core Lord of the Rings fans. We recommend the Bacon-Wrapped Chicken, Butter Beer and Golden Snitch chocolate ganache. Mama Lou’s Italian Kitchen started as one of the South‘s biggest neighborhood secrets, but because good restaurants can’t hide forever, it is now a foodie’s destination for authentic Italian eats. It’s for families and children who enjoy eating in a homey setting. It’s not for solo diners looking for small portions. We recommend the Risotto Tartufo Funghi, Spaghetti Seafood Olio and Pizza Tabarnes. Our insider tip: You may request to have 1 pizza in two halves – each with a different flavor.

The Frazzled Cook

The Frazzled Cook is a quirky restaurant put together with the mission of serving good comfort food in a cozy, homey ambiance. ‘Frazzled’, which means completely exhausted, says nothing of the food, but the passion and hard work put in to every dish they serve. It’s for casual but intimate date nights or cozy meals with the family. It’s not for people who don’t enjoy searching for ‘hidden’ restaurants. We recommend the Sizzling Squid, Wagyu Salpicao, Truffle Pasta, and Pancake ala Mode. Here’s an insider tip: The place is easily curtained off into sections, and they also have rooms for smaller private events. Read our full feature here.

Rib City

RB CTY / Rib City is a fun and interactive restaurant specializing in ribs, but they also offer dishes like pasta, salads, soup and other mains. In line with their restaurant concept, they encourage guests to play and build legos while waiting for orders. It’s for barkada nights out or Saturday playdates with the kids. It’s not for people who are looking for a quiet place to work in. We recommend the Big City with CTY rice or the Twin Tower. Our insider tip is to watch out for their poster signage; the store is found inside a building and may be easily missed.
