Cheat Sheet: Haircuts and Hairstyles to Make Your Face Look Slimmer

There is always an excuse to have a haircut. Maybe you're moving on from a heartbreak, or you want a change in your appearance, or you know, just because. But no matter what your reason is, a new hairstyle is always refreshing and liberating, uplifting not just your look but your overall disposition and mood.

We consider a lot of factors, though, before heading to our favorite salon. Of course, your cut will need to highlight your best features; it must be flattering and wearable, too. And in today's slimming-obsessed world, wouldn't it be fantastic if we can get hairstyles that will give us the illusion of a slimmer face so we won't have to spend so much time contouring our faces?

The beauty industry hears you loud and clear, ladies! Allow us to highlight the techniques that can easily make your face look slimmer without needing to hide behind your hair:

1. Longer hair. Having long hair actually elongates not just the face, but your body as well. A few layers can conceal full cheeks. Style in loose waves for added softness and so your face still takes centerstage.

2. Side-swept bangs. This fringe also makes the face look more slender. Tip: Consider your face shape and start testing which length and style work for you.

3. Color. Think about it, dressing up in the same hue from head to foot creates the illusion of more height. That also goes for hair color, so go pick  a shade that's close to your skin tone and wear it full on add length to your face. "Try on gold and silver accessories close to face and see which [color] make your face light up. You have a cool skintone if you go well with silver, and warm if gold. Some lucky ones go well with both," shares Ana Trinidad, L'Oréal Professionnel Education Manager.

4. Try out this trend. Dipping your toes (in this case, your hair) in the "in" thing will surely take you from drab to fab. Ana suggests the V Look, which is all the rage on international runways and amongst celebrities (Korean actress Yoon Eun Hye a.k.a Janelle in Koreanovela Princess Hours is one of the many currently sporting this look). Voluminous, airy and tousled waves in a flattering color matched with your skintone and enhanced by complementing hair trim results in a look that highlights your assets and slims down areas of your face that you want to conceal. And guess what? It's so versatile and can be styled many different ways so you surely won't have a hard time maintaining it.
