To breastfeed or not to breastfeed in public? That is the question. In fact, that is a question that has long been debated by many people, regardless of age, gender or position for so many years now. But as to why the issue hasn’t been completely put to rest yet is something that needs to be discussed.
In a social experiment produced and posted on Youtube by user JoeySalads, the videos showed a comparison on how people reacted to a woman breastfeeding in public as opposed to a woman in skimpy shorts with her cleavage overly exposed.
In an alarming number of times, the word “disgusting” was used to call out a mother breastfeeding in public. Is it the piece of flesh that hangs out or is it the baby feeding from it that bothers them? But why not be bothered by the piece of flesh that’s bulging to come out from the use of a push-up bra?
Is this simply a matter of priorities: people prefer visual stimulation over something basic and natural like feeding a baby? A matter of substandard ideals bordering on almost hypocrisy where it’s okay to show skin, as long as it’s deemed attractive and not uncomfortable to look at?
