Style Spotlight: A First Look at the Fashion Trends to Watch Out For in Spring/Summer 2016

Cold mornings are a clear indication that the time for sun, sand, and surf is still a quarter of a year away, but there’s no stopping us from dreaming of summer if we want to—and even plan ahead style-wise, because when it comes to looking good, it’s always best to be prepared. Filipino designers, both established and up and coming alike, recently showcased what they’ve got up their sleeves on the runways of Philippine Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016, and we're sharing with you our favorites. We’re sure you’ll love them, too, because while très chic, they’re practical and easy to wear:

Black and white. While summer is always a colorful time, black and white looks will be welcome breaks from too much florals and citrusy shades. They come in hip, laidback silhouettes, opposite the formality they’re normally associated with.

But of course, there will still be lots of color. If funky is the name of your fashion game, you’ll enjoy the quirky combinations of Kaye Morales; Pat Santos’ cool-hued ensembles, on the other hand, will lend you a summer goddess vibe for both day and night.

Athleisure is here to stay. Sportswear luxe is again a buzzword, and while dressing up sloppily for the gym is a thing of the past, now, so is keeping the athletic vibe to just literally sports. Mixy Dy (left) and Arnold Galang’s (right) collections are sophisticated and modern takes on sportswear that are perfect even for Miss Simple and Low Maintenance.

On the beauty front, nudes rule. They do everytime summer rolls around, anyway. The less makeup you wear, the better, so your complexion takes centerstage (make sure to keep it flawless and radiant by living a healthy lifestyle and finding the right skincare regimen for your skin type). Have nude and light pink lipstains to boost your no makeup makeup look.
