“A woman who cuts her hair changes her life”—or so the saying goes. Drastic haircuts are often associated with breakups, love problems, or stress, and indeed, chopping off your locks does not only take weight off your shoulders literally, but also makes you feel like a totally new person. Two famous celebrity hair transformations in recent history are Jessy Mendiola’s and Lea Salonga’s. Both used to have really long tresses, but have now been rocking short ‘dos for quite a while. Their hair gamechanger? Celebrity hairstylist Kusie Ho.
“It was on the day of the Star Magic Ball last year when we decided to cut Jessy hair’s—I remember I cut her hair at the hotel, before she walked the red carpet. And she nailed it!” Kusie recalls. Lea, on the other hand, just had hers cut several months ago, sometime during the run of The Voice of the Philippines Season 2 (didn’t you just love her faux mohawk during one of the finale nights?). More and more women are taking the plunge—the main reason? Not heartbreak, actually.
“Short hair is the easiest hairstyle to maintain, so it’s perfect for girls who don’t have much time to devote to their hair—just a bit of product, sometimes you don’t even need any, and you’re good to go,” he adds. A huge concern for those who are considering cutting their hair short are flyaway strands. Kusie’s solution is easy and foolproof: Go for a length that’s above your shoulders, and make sure to get a trim once a month to ward off split ends.
Short hairstyles may look the same, but the best ones are those that are tailor fit to your face shape and bone structure hence it’s crucial to go to a hairstylist you trust—you’re about to shake things up big time with your cut, so there’s no point in not going to the best.
