World-Class, Innovative Pinoy Designs Take Centerstage

We know how Filipinos are innovative, whether it is finding treasure from junk, or coming up with a new use for native material. In fact, our products are recognized internationally, and industrial designer Kenneth Cobonpue, best known for using natural fibers and materials in his designs, is a perfect example of a Filipino recognized on a global scale for his innovative work.

In the age of globalization, other countries would share their own ideas and innovations with one another Hto come up with fresh and new design ideas consumers around the world will love.

With these new ideas and innovations, indeed it will be the "Rise of the Maker," which is the theme of the October 2015 edition of Design Week Philippines, organized by Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), who also organizes Manila FAME.

For this edition, Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia, and Vietnam will be participating in the 5th edition of the design sharing council meeting, where they share best practices, innovation initiatives, and the resources they need to come up with these new and innovative ideas.

Aside from the four Asian countries, Pampanga will be the Philippines’ highlight for the “Artisanal Filipino Design Tour”, where our fellow Kapampangans, led by sculptor Willy Layug, will showcase their excellence in sculpting, pottery, and furniture-making.

In addition to Pampanga, Intramuros and Kapitolyo are also participating in Design Week Philippines as part of “Design Districts”, with the former showcasing traditional design and the latter showcasing modern design. As visitors, both local and foreign, will tour these districts, they will be able to add knowledge on key design elements that are truly Filipino.

Topics on design does not end there, as there will be the Katha Awards, where exhibitors get a chance to represent their works at international design-related trade shows for further exposure of their excellence with their skills and craft.
