You know what else caught our attention at the 9th Star Magic Ball, besides the stunning gowns of the ladies? The luxe mini purses many of the girls held in their hands—from Janella Salvador, Coleen Garcia, and KZ Tandingan’s intricately embellished ones to Liza Soberano, Julia Montes, and Yeng Constantino’s understated, single-color clutches, and Jodi Sta. Maria, Vina Morales, and Melissa Ricks’ geometric choices. The beautifully-made pieces were too eye-catching, it was difficult not to stare at them and ask the girls “Who designed your clutch?.”

As it turns out, their minaudieres, and those of 19 more women at the Star Magic Ball, were created by only one person: Custom-made minaudiere designer and entrepreneur Anna Rubio, who collaborated with the celebrities and their stylists to come up with those clutches that were such a hit on the red carpet. There were the simply elegant ones in silky fabrics...
The embellished beauties…
And the quirkily elegant and geometric-shaped...
“Every time I customize clutches for my clients, I make sure I see the details of their gowns and the kind of jewelry they will be wearing. I get to know my clients and the whole look they are after so I know what clutch best fits their personality,” says Anna. For the Star Magic Ball, she worked with stylists Perry Tabora, Myrrh Lao To, and Patty Yap, among others, and their clients. Their first order of business was to decide whether they want the clutch to blend with the color of the gowns or to contrast and provide a pop of color—this year though, Anna reveals that “less is more” was a common request of the ladies. “That and to make the size big enough for their phones.”
Here are Anna’s tips for you when it comes to choosing your next minaudiere:
“First, decide on the look you're after. Second, choose the right designers you trust that will help you achieve that look—be it off the rack or custom made. Third, pick a clutch size that will fit your phone (Also consider your future phone! It only gets bigger, right?) and makeup for retouching!”
