What do OFWs Miss About the Philippines? This Song Nails It!

A month later after announcing their latest collaboration for OFWs, OPM bands  OPM bands Sponge Cola, Itchyworms, Kjwan, OPM singer Ebe Dancel, and Fil-Canadian funnyman Mikey Bustos, along with the help of crowdsourcing for lyrics, have come up with a song that will make OFWs miss the Philippines more.

As the song’s music video can be found in YouTube, here are our top 10 favorite lines in the song “Miss Ko Na” that best defines life in the Philippines.

Since it is the start of the ‘ber months, I bet a lot of us Filipinos are preparing for the songs we will sing as part of our annual Christmas carol, and also have a budget for a sumptuous Noche Buena come Christmas.

Halo-halo is indeed a Filipino delicacy, and it is so unique that there is in fact no English translation to it. Of course, aside from ice cream, fruits, and gulaman, two of the most important ingredients of this Filipino delicacy is crushed ice (because of our country’s tropical weather), and condensed milk (because it is a Filipino staple ingredient everyone loves)

Familiar with the saying “the family that eats together, stays together”? I’m sure you know that saying because family is important to us Filipinos, and eating together as a family is a good example on how much we value our family members no matter what.

If there is one thing unique with our barbers here in the Philippines, it is the stories they would narrate to all of their clients. It does not matter if these “barber’s tales” are fact or fiction; we all love listening to their stories. After all, we never know if they would have stories that are worth a gem.

6) Hindi ko name-miss all the traffic from EDSA

Of course, there are some things that we do not really miss about the Philippines, and among them is the daily struggle of dealing with traffic along EDSA. But then, Bustos has something to say about the daily struggle.

5) At sa bahay, teleserye kasama si Nanay

Watching teleseryes is among the many ways Filipino families would bond together at home. Whether it would be Yna and Angelo at “Pangako Sa ‘Yo”, or Leah and Clark at “On the Wings of Love”, families love watching these TV shows as a bonding activity.

Another thing that many would not miss is the daily struggle of commuting around the Metro, whether it is for work or for leisure. From MRT woes to jeepney struggles, commuting in the Philippines is an everyday challenge. But then, we got some tips to commute with harmony.

If there is that one sport that Filipinos definitely love, that would be basketball. From UAAP and NCAA games to PBA and NBA games, to supporting our very own Gilas Basketball Team, we are all out in showing our love and passion for basketball, even if it involves playing around the street with a few friends.

2) Miss ko na mag-videoke, sintonado man kami

One has to admit that videoke is everyone’s favorite pastime, whether it is with officemates after work or with relatives during family reunions. No matter what our singing voice may sound like, everyone loves singing their favorite hugot songs.

Of course, OFWs definitely will miss their loved ones in the Philippines, especially given the fact that they are our modern-day heroes. Working abroad away from their loved ones is no easy task, so hats off to OFWs who make sacrifices for their families.
