Local fashion has a new darling, and no, she isn’t of the supermodel-cum-TV show host variety. Despite not falling under the formulaic equation of ‘it’ girl, her sheer design talent and unequivocal personal style has caused fashion insiders to stand and take notice. At just 26 years old, Rosenthal Tee is out to make it big in the fashion industry.
Fresh from her stint at the London campus of Istituto Marangoni, where she graduated with a Master’s Degree in Fashion Design Womenswear (with distinction) in 2013, this young designer was catapulted into the limelight with an invitation to join last year’s Mercedes-Benz Stylo Asia Fashion Week held in Malaysia last October alongside distinguished local designers such as Albert Andrada and Noel Crisostomo, among others. Usually an honor given to members of local design councils, Rosenthal was handpicked and sought out by the organizers of the event themselves.
Here are the style philosophies this versatile designer, who has an irrevocable ability to shift between varying styles and make it believable, stands by—and you can definitely learn from:
As with anything in life, it's best to be open to new trends and ideas. “Never say never—I believe that style is a visual exposition of your journey as a woman, and each look you present to the world, from the most outrageous or routine, is a culmination of your own exploration of the world and the world of fashion. So if you like something, consider it and if it works, definitely go for it.”
Discern wisely. “I don’t believe in necessarily pursuing all the quick fashion trends that are presented to us, as I’ve come to realize that not everything will always work for the individual in terms of look, cut, and silhouette. Lately, I find myself gravitating towards key luxury pieces I know have more utility in my closet, and investment pieces that will endure through time.”
